Hay que aprovechar cada oportunidad que se precie, y mas si la obra de un genio llega a tu ciudad. Esto es lo que ha pasando en Madrid, una de las mas grandes agujas de la historia de la moda ha estado exponiendo su obra en el Museo Thyssen: vestidos míticos, y otros cedidos para el evento por sus propietarias. Todo montado bajo las directrices del diseñador de 87 años, el mismo dirigió como tenia que ir colocado cada maniquí, cada cuadro y cada elemento que se exponen. Una exposición que ha llegado a su fin pero cuyo legado comparto con vosotros. /

El diseñador francés pertenecía a una familia acaudalada, coleccionistas de arte, antigüedades y relacionada con la manufactura de tapices, ello hace que sepa apreciar el arte de una manera muy especial. El mismo reconoce que tuvo mucha suerte de crecer entre cosas bellas. /
Hubert de Givenchy was born February 20th 1927 in France. The french designer was born in a wealthy family, who collected art, antiques and were related to the tapestry manufacture, therefore he learn to appreciate art on a very special way. He recognizance he was luck to grow up by beautiful things. Lo que buscaba Givenchy era mostrar al publico como ha entendido la belleza durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Para ello, expone 100 vestidos que reflejan ese arte, ese sentimiento, y esa magia tan especial que resume toda su carrera como uno de los grandes maestros de la alta costura. /
Givenchy wanted to show ow he has understood fashion during the second half of the 20th century. Therefore he exhibit 100 dresses that reflect that art, that feeling and the special magic that resume all his carrier as one of the biggest couturiers of fashion. Le dijo que no a Christian Dior para poder abrir su propia casa de costura en 1952. Su primera colección "Separates" (los básicos) se trata de una colección que se compone de prendas que pueden llevarse solas: blusas, faldas, vestidos de dos piezas... Fue el primer modisto que creo ropa que podía combinarse entre si, elementos que permiten a la clienta mezclarlos bajo su propia creatividad, lo que hizo de ella una colección muy vanguardista y totalmente transgresora. A esta colección pertenece su famosa blusa Bettina (nombre dado en honor a la modelo Bettina Graziani) con cuello abierto y mandas adornadas con bordado ingles, que creo en algodón, un tejido que no era noble para la alta costura de entonces. / He told no to Christian Dior to open his couture maison in 1952. En 1953 conoce a Cristobal Balenciaga, a quien admiraba, y quien a partir de entonces sera su mentor y su maestro. Incluso cuando Balenciaga cierra su firma en 1968, aconsejaba a sus clientas a vestirse con Givenchy. / In 1953 he met Cristian Balenciaga, who he already admired and how turn into his mentor and friend. Vestidos cortos, trajes de seda, piezas de piel, que reflejan la influencia de Balenciaga en sus creaciones. Balenciaga le enseño que los tejidos que iban a tocar la piel de la mujer tenían que ser los extraordinarios, para ello le mostró como seleccionarlos e incluso permitió que utilizara sus propios proveedores. / Short dresses, silk dresses, leather pieces, reflect the influence of Balenciaga. Innovo en el tejido textil con bordados, muselinas y seda, introdujo fibras sintéticas en el mundo de la moda como el Lurex y Orlon, combino y trato el color en las pieles como nadie lo había echo antes. Fue el primer modisto en presentar sus colecciones a la prensa y a sus clientas al mismo tiempo, y el 1954 fue el primer modisto en lanzar una linea femenina de pret a porter. /
He innovated in the fabrics with embroideries, muslin and silk, he introduced synthetics fabrics in fashion such us Lurex and Orlon, he mixed and treated the color in leather as no-one before. He was the first designer to present his collection to the press and his clients at the same time, and in 1954 he was the first haute couture designer in lunch a pret a porter collection. Desde un principio, arte tiene una gran importancia en sus tejidos. Las chaquetas, brocados, se inspiran en Santa Casilda. / Since the begging the art has a very import part in his fabrics. Hizo suyo el color negro, es el único diseñador que verdaderamente se ha apropiado de un color. Fue el primer diseñador que utilizo el negro como color para vestir ya que antes estaba considerado como el tono del luto. Pero Givenchy consiguió trasformarlo en el color de la elegancia, de la sofisticación, hizo un tono para vestir el día, la noche, y utilizándolo en distintos tejidos ha sido capaz de crear sensaciones muy distintas. / He make black his color, is the only coutier that has his color. It was the first designer to use black as a dress color, before that it was consider the mourning color. But Givenchy turn it into elegance and sophistication, he make it a color to dress day, noght and using it in diferent fabrics he was able to trasmit different sensations.

Sus clientes le adoraban, y con ellas mantenía muy buena relación pero tenia tres clientas especiales. La Duquesa de Winsor (Wallis Simpson), fue una de ella, en la exposición se puede ver un vestido de rayas, y el abrigo con el que enterró a su marido. / Her clients love him, and he had a great relationship with them, but he had three speial clients. One of them was the Duchess of Winsor (Wallis Simpson), at the exhibition it can be seen a stripes dress and the coat she buried her husband.
Jaqueline Kennedy, se salto el protocolo americano, para llevar en 1963, en la recepción en el Palacio de Versalles, con el General de Gaulle, un vestido de fiesta con un abrigo beige largo elaborado por Givenchy para dicha ocasión. / Jacqueline Kennedy broke the American protocol to dress in 1963, at the reception of the General de Gaulle at Versalles, a party dress with a beige long coat designed by Givenchy for the occasion.
Abrigo de lana diseñado para Jackie. / Wool coat for Jackie.Pero su musa, y gran amiga fue Audrey Hepburn. Cuentan que Audrey se puso en contacto con el en 1953 pero cuando le dijeron que la Sra. Hepburn quería verle, Hubert pensó que se tratada de Katherine Hepburn, y se llevo una desilusión cuando vio que se trataba de Audrey, por aquel entonces no tan conocida. Audrey quería un vestido para "Sabrina", pero aunque a Hubert le encanto esa diminuta y elegante mujer que vestía mallas y bailarinas, no pudo hacer ningún vestido ya que se encontraba creando su próxima colección y no disponía de tiempo, pero le ofreció la posibilidad elegir entre 50 vestidos ya diseñados. Gracias a dicho vestido Sabrina recibe el Oscar a mejor diseño de vestuario. A partir de entones, la actriz le elige como modisto de cabecera tanto para su vestuario personal como para el de sus películas. / But her muse and close friend were Audrey Hepburn. Audrey wanted a dress for the movie "Sabrina", but even Hubert find that little and elegant woman, that dress with small pants and ballerina flats, charming, he had no time to make a dress for the movie because he was too busy designing his new collection, so he offer her 50 dresses he already had at his atelier. With that dress Sabrina won the best costum design Oscar. Since then he become her designer for her personal and professional life.

Esta relación fue muy importante porque le lanzo al estrellato, a aparecer en las salas de cine, en las portadas de las mejores revistas, a que su nombre brillara. De echo, su obra mas conocida fue el "Little Black dress" que llevo Audrey Hepburn en la mítica "Desayuno con Diamantes". De el tuvo que hacer tres modelos idénticos por si se estropeaba durante el traslado o el rodaje. Se trata de un vestido de noche de satén con un falda de tubo hasta los pies y abertura en el lateral. El cuerpo se abre en la espalda, dejando descubiertos los omóplatos y se cierra lujosamente con una pieza semicircular. / Their relationship was so important it luch Givenchy to popularity, to be part of the movie theatres, to be at the covers of the best magazines, to make his name shine. His most popular piece was the well knowns "Little black dress" that Audrey Hepburn wore at the popular "Breakfast at Tifanny's". He had to creat three identical models just in case one of them got broke during the transport or the shoot. It was a evening black satin dress that consist of a tube long skirt with a opening on the side. The body is open on the back to show the shouldes blade and it fisnih with a luxury semicircular piece.

Incluso en 1957 disena un perfume especialmente para Audrey, "L'Interdit". Un perfume del que es imagen la actriz, es la primera vez que una actriz aparece como imagen de un perfume. / Even in 1957 he designed a especial perfume for Audrey, "L'Interdit". De aquí, se pasa a una parte de la exposición donde queda implícita la influencia del arte en la obra de Givenchy. Como todo diseñador de Alta Costura Givenchy dedica una seccion a los vestidos de novia, vestidos populares por cerran los desfiles de moda. En la exposición pudimos ver el ultimo traje de novia que diseño: un traje rosa color que utiliza para referirse a la alegría, de ese momento mágico para el que quiere trasmitir belleza desde la sencillez. Se trata de un vestido elaborado en tul rosa, con bordado en lazo de satén. / As a couturier, Givenchy create a section for bride dresses, those popular dresses that use to end the catwalks. Hubert de Givenchy se retiro en 1995. Aunque fue en 1988 cuando vendió su firma al famoso grupo LVMH. Su ultimo desfile fue muy emocionante, hasta Yves Saint Laurent y Valentino acudieron. En el carrusel, de este ultimo desfile de 1995, quiso que fuera compuesto por sus sastres, sus modistas, y su equipo quienes salieran con el a decir adiós. / Hubert de Givenchy got retired in 1995. Although he sale his brand to the populat LVMH group. His lat catwalk was so exiting, even Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino were there. At the carousel, of that last catwalk of 1995, he wanted to becomposed for histailors,his dressmakers,andhis team whocame outtosay goodbye.

Dicen que la moda de Givenchy no tiene fecha, que es a temporal. Pero para el genio la alta costura a muerto, para Givenchy el ultimo de los grandes fue Yves Saint Laurent, desde entonces la moda nunca sera lo que fue. /
They said Givenchy's fashion has no date, that is atemporary. For the genius the Haute Couture has died, for Givenchy the last greates one was Yves Saint Laurent, since then fashion won't be what it was. Bisous!!!
